Father's Gaze

2023, Film photograph

Father's Gaze, Installation view from the exhibition DAD, 2023

These are family photographs taken by the artist's late father as a hobby over many years, left behind in vast quantities after his passing.

At first glance, they appear to portray a happy family. However, when viewed through the politics existing between the "photographer" (father) and the "subjects" (mother and daughters), and considered as an accusation of the domestic violence the artist experienced firsthand, their meaning transforms into something entirely different, even contradictory.

Furthermore, by treating these massive quantities of prints not merely as photographic images but as physical objects, they have become mementos that palpably embody the father's long-accumulated thoughts and fixations toward his family.
